OCR PDF reads the text inside a scanned PDF and makes it searchable and selectable. OCR stands for optical character recognition, and it turns pictures of words into real text you can copy, search, and edit.

How to run OCR on a PDF

  1. Upload your scanned PDF file.
  2. Start the OCR process.
  3. The tool scans each page for text.
  4. Download a PDF where the text can be searched.

Why scanned files need OCR

A scan is really a photo of a page, so you cannot select or search the words. OCR looks at the shapes of the letters and rebuilds them as text. After that, you can find a word with search or copy a paragraph.

For better accuracy

Clear, straight scans work best. Pages that are dark, blurry, or tilted may have a few errors. Good lighting and a flat scan during the original capture lead to cleaner OCR results.
